Jan Zeiger, Ed.S., is an experienced educator, school administrator, and community leader who brings nearly two decades of experience in education to her role as Executive Director of Lions Camp Merrick in Nanjemoy, Maryland. Her professional background includes nine years as a teacher, along with ten years of leadership experience in school administration.
Jan first developed a love for camp life as a young “Brownie” Girl Scout, a program she actively participated in throughout elementary and middle school. As a college student, she gained valuable experience as a pre-service teacher by working as a summer camp counselor at Camp Walt Whitman in Piermont, New Hampshire. Years later, she had the opportunity to take her own two children to camp in the beautiful Poconos of Pennsylvania, where she served the Camp Cayuga community for five memorable summers.
Jan holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida and earned an educational specialist in leadership from the University of Central Florida. Her areas of certification include school principal, elementary education, middle school English, and special education. Throughout her career, Jan has demonstrated a commitment to education, leadership, and community involvement. She has served on multiple school advisory councils and also served on the City of Casselberry Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. She was recognized with the “Teaching is a Work of Heart” Award for her dedication to education.
Today, Jan brings that same spirit of service to Lions Camp Merrick, a nonprofit camp in Nanjemoy that provides opportunities for children and adults to build connections, experience personal growth, and enjoy an inclusive camp community. As Executive Director, she is focused on expanding programming for children and teens with diabetes, reviving programs for individuals who are visually or hearing impaired, and strengthening partnerships with Lions Clubs and community organizations.
Jan’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to education, leadership, service, and creating meaningful experiences for children and their families. After her primary camp objectives have been achieved, Jan would like to fully explore her new role as a member of the Waldorf Lions Club (and utilize her background as an educator) by starting a Cub Club or Leo Club in Charles County.
